Network and remote access

Outlook Web Access

Outlook Web Access (OWA) gives you access to your email from a web browser on any computer.

Remote and Mobile Access Service

The Remote and Mobile Access Service (RMAS) gives you secure, remote access to University applications (such as Microsoft Office, SAP etc) and resources (such as your home directory (M: drive) and shared network directories (N: drive)).

FTP access

The recommended method to connect to your home directory or shared network directories is by using the Remote and Mobile Access service. However, a secure FTP service is also available. 

The University public FTP server can be used to transfer of large files between members of the University and 3rd parties.

VPN (Virtual Private Network)

The VPN allows you to connect securely into the University network and use ISS core resources and access registered Departmental devices

Webmail

Webmail lets you access your email from a web browser on any computer.

Desktop Anywhere

Desktop Anywhere gives you secure remote access to University IT services from most computers which have Internet access.  Once logged in, you'll have access to:

  • Some of the most frequently used applications on the ISS cluster desktop
  • Home directory (M: drive) and departmental shared areas (N: drive)
  • On-campus services such as departmental intranet sites and Library services
  • Cluster printing

To use Desktop Anywhere, log into the Portal, go to the Computing and Libraries tab and  click the Connect to Desktop Anywhere link.

About the network group

The Network Group provides network support services to the teaching, research and administrative communities at the University of Leeds. These services include the planning, development, acquisition, and operation of institutional networking services. In particular, we design and operate the backbone network. We also provide and support data communications, up to and often beyond the facility entrance, for academic and administrative departments.
