What is 802.1x?
The ISS Network Group is providing an additional wireless service, 'eduroam' which will have native encryption (802.1x).

What's happening to the current " University of Leeds Wireless" service?
- Nothing, this will stay as the standard, unencrypted service
What are the advantages of the enhanced 'eduroam' service?
- The service is very secure - all the data between your computer and the wireless hotspot is strongly encrypted.
- You do not have to use the VPN to obtain an encrypted connection
- Your laptop can reconnect automatically.
- To use 802.1x you will need a computer that can do '802.1x'. Most recent computers running Windows XP service pack 2, Windows Vista, Apple OS X, Symbian and Linux can do this.
