The ACLA is a three-year agreement under which a University pays an annual fee which is related to the total number of licences required for that year. Licences obtained in this way are re-assigned as required, typically on a yearly basis, to specified Autodesk products (not just AutoCAD). All ACLA-licensed products are placed under the Autodesk Subscription Programme which provides upgrades and access to some Autodesk training materials. Currently, the University has acquired 200 licences under this scheme, some are funded by ISS and others by Departments.
ACLA licences must not be used for profit but usage is not limited to teaching activities. Thus ACLA licences could, for example, be used for research purposes, by departments for facilities management or by Estates Services for maintenance and development.

The agreement also allows members of staff to use the software on a personally owned machine either at work or at home. For a summary of the terms of the agreement see Microsoft Campus Agreement [Terms of Use]. A separate scheme, the Microsoft Student Options scheme, allows students to download products directly from Microsoft at special student rates.
