FTP access to home directories and shared areas
FTP access to home directories and shared areas
Published Monday 8th February 10
From Monday 22 February the standard FTP service will be replaced by a more secure one called FTPs.
A number of ISS accounts were recently compromised by hackers, ie the password was discovered. We believe this happened as people accessed their home directories using the FTP service.
Access to the M and N drives from outside the University using standard FTP was removed before Christmas. The next step is to remove access from within the campus. This will occur on the Monday 22 February, when the standard FTP service will be replaced with a more secure one called FTPs. Information on how to use this service is now available online.
