Example phishing emails (February 2010)
Removal of hyperlinks from automatic emails
From Monday 16 November 2009, automatic emails from many University systems (such as SIPR and COSTA) will not contain hyperlinks to web pages which ask for your username and password. Instead, the links will appear just as plain text.
What you need to do
You will need to copy and paste (or type) the link into the address bar of your browser, rather than clicking on it directly.
Watch Flash movie of copy and pasting a link from an email to your web browser (opens in a new window or tab)
You can also Bookmark ('Favorites' in Internet Explorer) web pages so you can easily return to them. To do this:
- Go to the page you want to bookmark
- In Internet Explorer, choose Add to Favorites from the Favorites menu, or
in Firefox, choose Bookmark this Page from the Bookmark menu - Choose a folder to store your bookmark and click Add (IE) or Done (Firefox)
To return to a bookmark page choose the Favorites or Bookmark menu and click on the bookmark.
If you think you have replied to a phishing email please contact the Help Desk immediately (tel x33333)
